Paco Sanchez Disc Golf Course
Back to Disc Golf Course Overview
History: Paco Sanchez which is formally known as Lakewood Dry Gulch, was established in 2006. Originally founded along a forgotten piece of land that serves mostly as a drainage and secondarily as a hobo encampment, it is in a “colorful” neighborhood pretty much at the corner of Colfax and Federal. Minutes from downtown Denver.
My first time playing there was 2007 when I just started to really get into Disc Golf as this was a great place for a couple of buddies to meet-up after work, grab some beers and enjoy the evenings. The course wasn’t exactly in the best of neighborhoods and the first few times playing there was quite interesting. After a while you really started seeing the cool aspects of the course as it was very low-key and a bunch of the neighborhood started playing the course fairly regular.
Unfortunately this forgotten piece of land was an important part of the RTD Lightrail plan to add the West Rail line connecting downtown Denver to Golden. July 2008 the City of Denver pulled the baskets and there was a serious hole in the Denver Disc Golf scene.
May 2013: A Lot has changed in those 5 years since Paco closed. The physical structure of the park is very similar, however it is significantly improved upon. Multiple new paths crisscross the park making it easy to play. Significantly improved grass areas make it feel like a park instead of a forgotten ditch. New hole layouts and improved flow has brought this course back to life and is better then ever.
The Denver disc golf scene has changed a lot over this time too. Beaver Ranch opened in 2007, Jellystone in late 2011, Colorado Heights, Bailey, Magic Meadows all in 2012. This just acts as another addition to some prime courses.
Officially the baskets were put back in on 4/30/13. Saturday 5/4/13 we played it and the whole course was full of people, many which have never played the course before. Great to see it back!

Many Options to play this course:
- Play all holes ~3hrs for a quick small group
- Play 1-8, 21: This nine hole variant is still a good round.
- Play 1-8, #11-12, cross the bridge to #17-21. Most of the course but much faster.
